Apple iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Launch in India Prices, A20 Pro Chip and September 18 Sale Date

Apple has pushed its latest premium smartphone strategy further with the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, placing performance, professional photography, artificial intelligence and battery endurance at the centre of its newest flagship lineup.

In a notable change to its product strategy, Apple has not introduced a standard iPhone 18 model alongside the Pro variants at launch. Instead, the company has focused attention on its premium devices, while its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, is scheduled to arrive separately in October.

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at ₹1,64,900 in India, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max begins at ₹1,79,900. Pre-orders open on September 12, 2026, and both models will go on sale from September 18.

Apple’s New Premium-Only Launch Strategy

The absence of a standard iPhone 18 at the initial launch marks a change from Apple’s familiar annual pattern.

Instead of presenting a conventional model alongside Pro and Pro Max versions, Apple has concentrated its first wave on the higher-end range. This makes the iPhone 18 Pro family the primary focus for customers looking for the newest flagship hardware.

The range includes higher-storage options extending up to 2TB. Depending on the model and storage capacity, prices rise substantially beyond the entry-level versions. Reports indicate that the top-end iPhone 18 Pro Max can cross ₹3 lakh in India.

Pre-orders begin on September 12, with Apple’s official sales starting September 18. India is among the first group of international markets to receive the new Pro models.

A20 Pro Chip Powers the New iPhone 18 Pro

The biggest performance upgrade comes from Apple’s new A20 Pro processor.

Apple says the chip is designed to deliver improved sustained performance while consuming power more efficiently. It is paired with a next-generation vapour chamber that helps control heat during demanding tasks such as gaming, video processing, photography and on-device AI workloads.

Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro Max can provide up to 43 hours of video playback, representing a major increase over the previous-generation Pro Max. The device also supports faster wired charging, reaching approximately 50% charge in around 15 minutes with a compatible power adapter.
